Current Information:
Born-Holloway Ledeghem Military Cemetery, Belgium
On 14th November, 1914, the 2nd Royal West Surrey (Queens) battalion of 22 Brigade, 7th Division, marched to trenches at La Bouteillerie, near Fleurbaix, where they stayed for the rest of the month or in billets in Rue de Bataille or Rue de Biache. On the night of 18/19th November they moved back to Rue de Bataille from the front line during which the battalion diary recorded that there were a lot of stray bullets flying around and that every now and then a man was lost. Christopher Thorne was killed on 19th November, 1914, but he is buried in Ledeghem Churchyard and his grave was later transferred tp Ledeghem Military Cemetery. This location was in German hands at the time and quite a few miles from Fleurbaix, so there remains some confusion about the circumstances of his death. |
